17-Day Wildlife Safari with Chimps and Beaches

Overview

This safari is designed for those visitors who want to see what Tanzania offers. You will spend time on Tanzania's mainland and Zanzibar island. During the safari, you will explore Tanzania's wildlife, participate in chimpanzee trekking, and leisure on Zanzibar's beaches. You can expect to see abundant wildlife, trek into the forest to observe primates at play, and finally visit the beautiful white-sandy beaches of Zanzibar. We can arrange your pick-up from either the airport or your hotel.

Day 1: Drive to Tarangire National Park
Depart Arusha for Tarangire NP, enjoy morning and afternoon game drives, lunch, and see elephants, baobabs, birds, and more. Overnight at Fig Tree Lodge.
Main Destination: Tarangire National Park
Accommodation: Fig Tree Lodge (Budget hotel, 1-2hr from park)

Day 2: Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, drive to Serengeti via Ngorongoro, lunch, afternoon game drive, overnight at Seronera Public Campsites.
Main Destination: Serengeti National Park
Accommodation: Budget camping inside Central Serengeti NP

Day 3: Game Drives in Serengeti National Park
Early morning game drive, breakfast, relax, afternoon game drive, then to Ngorongoro area. Overnight at Simba Campsite A.
Main Destination: Central Serengeti National Park
Accommodation: Budget camping on the crater rim of Ngorongoro Crater

Day 4: Rhinos Home - Ngorongoro Crater
Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a full day game drive, see Big Five, birds, and more. Overnight at Fig Tree Lodge.

Day 5: Lake Manyara
Morning drive to Lake Manyara, picnic lunch, afternoon game drive, then to Arusha for overnight at The Charity Hotel.

Day 6: Materuni Coffee Tour and Waterfalls
Drive to Materuni village, hike to waterfalls, coffee tour, then to Moshi for overnight at The Secret Garden Hotel.

Day 7: Kilimanjaro to Gombe National Park
Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport, fly to Kigoma, visit Ujiji and Dr. Livingstone memorial, boat to Gombe NP, lunch, start chimp trek.

Accommodation: Kasekela Luxury Campsite (Mid-range, Gombe NP)

Day 8: Gombe Stream
Chimpanzee tracking, climb Jane's peak, visit Kakombe waterfalls (if time allows).

Day 9: Morning Walk in Kigoma
Morning chimp trek, visit Mkenge waterfall, lunch, transfer to Kigoma, overnight at Sunset Vista Hotel.

Day 10: Kigoma to Dar Es Salaam to Zanzibar
Early breakfast, fly to Dar es Salaam, connect to Zanzibar, relax or explore Stone Town.

Day 11: Zanzibar City Tour and Prison Island
City tour of Stone Town, visit Old Slave Market, Old Fort, Freddie Mercury's house, Princess Salme Inn, Indian/Arab doors, lunch, Prison Island tour, see giant tortoises, return to hotel.
Main Destination: Zanzibar Stone Town

Day 12-16: Relaxing at the Beach
Relax on Zanzibar's white sandy beaches, swim, play beach games, enjoy meals at New Teddy's on the Beach.

Day 17: Swimming with Dolphins
Early morning swim with dolphins at Kizimkazi, transfer to lodge or airport.

Getting There

• This tour starts in Arusha and ends in Zanzibar, Tanzania
• Tanzania Destination Operators can help select your international flights, but you'll have to book them yourself
• Fly to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO - Check price) near Arusha. Or fly to Arusha Airport (ARK - Check price) via Dar es Salaam or Nairobi (Kenya)
• Fly back from Abeid Amani Karume Airport (ZNZ - Check price) on Zanzibar. Or fly from Dar es Salaam (DAR - Check price). There are daily ferries between Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
